COMMONWEALTH AND STATE. Sydney, September 24. The New South Wales Legislative Assembly adopted by 53 votes to 23 the resolutions passed by the Premiers' Conference in reference to the financial relations of the Commonwealth and the States.
PREFERENTIAL TRADE RELATIONS. Received 24, 9.30 p.m. Melbourne, September 24. •The Government, replying to .Senators, stated that tile Goveiiinicnl had not abandoned its intention to introduce measures to secure preferential trade with New Zealand and Canada. ■Negotiations with both countries would the resutmed when the congestion of public business was relieved. : NEW SOUTH WALES BALAXX'EI SHEET. Received 25, 0.411 a.m. Sydney, September 24. The Treasurer's Budget statement of leVenuc for the past year was £15,4t>7,000, and the expenditure £13,700,000. The estimated revenue for the coming year was £14,753,000, and the expenditure £14,442,000, giving a surplus of 1£300,000. It is expected that the'.State will receive £600,000 less from tile Commonwealth this year than last. •The railways last year returned interest at the rate of £4 10s lOd, yielding a anrplus of £071,000.
