XGAIRK JJAIR\ COMPANY. UXCOOI.KD MILK. THE CO-OPERATIVE MARKET'INM SCHEME. At a meeting of the Xgaire Dairy Factory .shareholder-, last week a member declared that for want- of cooling the milk the year's output of cheese was diminished'by a value of WOIHI. The manager said the milk had been getting worse aud worst for the last six years. The cooling of milk night and morning would increase the grade mark bv 2 points. It. was resolved to authorise the ma iager to refuse all over-ripe milk. A motion against the election lo the directorate of farmers who did not cool ,h-.-l, night milk was lost by a large majority. At the reijict of the meeting the secretary explained the system of cooperative marketing. The company had agreed to consign the output to the National Dairy Association. The dairy association would distribute it aiming four selected liruis in London. There would be a saving in commission, ai.l possibly from other sources. The main advantage would be that there would lie
some supervision over these four companies. The agent of the National Dairy Association would have the privilege'of inspecting the four linns' .books, and would watch liiem throughout the season. They had the assurance of the Xational Dairy Association that they would get the same advances as in the past. A shareholder: Without recourse-; The secretary: No, with recourse. Mr. -I. Lavcrl'y doubted if the linns in London would allow their books to be inspected. The companies would be a distributing concern, and could "bearthe market. -Suppose the companies distributed in .Manchester and Liverpool or in Yorkshire, who was going to pay llic expenseV They had no idea what it would cost then).
The chair-man (Mr. AY. .Morisou) sai.l they had guaranteed their, output for a year and then they could withdraw. Th'ev had stipulated to s 1 I heir oulput'tbrough Messrs. Lovell & Cbristuvis. and the new system would make no difference to 'them. •Mr. Fryilay said he -had seen it staled that there would be a stronger combine against Sew Zealand -produce thin before.
Mr. Taylor s aid the other companies that at present did Ibusinuss in Xmv Zealand would combine against the .National Dairy Association. The chairman said the Xntional Da'py Association and .Messrs. Lovell &■ Christmas would not receive more than 3 per cent, commission. .
