NEW PLYMOUTH HARBOR BOARD

The Xew Plymouth Harbor Board held its usual monthly meeting yesterday. 'Present: Messrs. J. 15. Connett (chairman), Xcwton King, .1. Ward, ,1. Thomson, R. Price, J. Marx, D. J. Hughes, junr., and E. Maxwell. HARBORMASTER'S REPORT. The harbormaster reported that during the past four weeks there had been 47 steamer berthings at the harbor, the aggregate gross tonnage amounting to 38,557 tons. Imports were 5892 tons, including ll(il tons of railway coal and (i7O tons of private coal. Exports weiv 888 tons, making a total of (1780 tons of cargo handled. During the four weeks there had been experienced fine, clear, moderate weather, witli light variable wind and moderate seas. The dredge worked 17 days, making 100 trips, removing fI'.IGO cubic yards of sand and silt from between the breakwater and the wharf. The depth of water throughout the area of the harbor was about th e same as stated in the previous report. FOREMAN'S REPORT.

The foreman reported:—Breakwater extension. —Four concreto blocks have bren made during the month, the'.lumber now -on hand being 80. The quantity of stone quarried and tipped at the end of the breakwater was 1420 tons. One section of twelve feet has been completed. The total length of the extension' is now 454 feet. In, about K ix weeks the stone remaining at the upper cpiarry will be worked out, and the road is being widened in preparation for bringing the 25-ton crane down to the Fishing 1 ltock.

( Wharf.—Five new piles have been driven in the old wharf, and repairs ef fecteil to the bottom walings, braces, and chafing pieces. Wharf widening.—The work of preparing and copering the piles has been carried on throughout the month. A few of the necessary beams have now come to hand, and pile-driving will lie resumed next week for a further length' of three bays. flravcl.—A plentiful supply of excellent gravel is being obtained from the Mikotahi inlet. The total quantity now taken out is 70S cubic pards, 435 yards' last few weeks. The. average cost continues at Od per yard, including coal for loco.' and crane. I
