Cables received early I hi* week from Australia report that the market there was very strong ami excited, and price for superline quality was 180s in Sydney. Since then prices appear to have taken another spurt, upwards, as the Press of to-day's da'-e state tha.t they have received the . following cablegram from Sydney: "Superfine butter is now quoted at 200s, the highest price for 17 years, it has risen 5Ss in ten days. New South Wales is the only State oi the Commonwealth producing butter in excess of its requirements. There has been a heavy rainfall throughout the State, in Sydney 1-1% inches have fallen in nine day*, being o v ( >r a quarter of the annual average rainfall." Our Australian friends are therefore apparently having a little of the excitement which we had in our home markets during the month of February. Telegraphic advices from Copenhagen slate that the market thert. continues dull, and to-day's quotation has been declared unchanged. Our weather during the past week has been favourable to the continuance of a large make of both butter and cheese. Butter. Danish and Swedish.—The total shipments to this country again show a decrease, bill, notwithstanding this, there has been a comparatively poor demand, and prices are about Is lower. Fairly large stocks art? left over unsold. We quote strictly choicest llt's to 119s, Siberian.—The arrivals this week are not quite so heavy, but there is still a lack of animation on the market. Prices remain steady, and are practically unchanged since our last, namely, 100s for choicest, 102* to 104s for choice, confectionery grades !)8s to 100s. Our telegraphic advices from Siberia show that the market there is weakening considerably, prices being reduced at the various markets from Is 0d to (is per cwt. Irish.—The shipments continue heavy. Quality is very nice. Prices are slightly i.iMer, choicest quality being 112s to 114s. Irish farmers' lirkins and butts continue to meet with a steady inquiry at previous rates, 98s to 102s. Canadian.— ftpot goods are being pushI ed at 115s to litis,"but at these figures i the demand is somewhat slow. Cable | prices continue firm, i Australian and New Zealand. —Ship- ! m-ents binding just now are very smali. Strictly choicest New Zealand butters are quoted atf 11 lis to 117s, choicest Australian 112s to 114s, with choice at 106s to 110s. Imports to the United Kingdom.—Owing to the holidays this week in England we have not received our usuu statistics from the Board of Trade. Cheese. Canadian.—The old make is now very .small in compass, and is being slowly taken \\\i at to G3s. The new cheese is somewhat lirmer, and meets with.a steady demand at about Is advance, i3Bs Od to tiOs. Xew Zealand. —Coloured remains quiet but steady at oSs to 50s. White is in fairly good lemand at unaltered rates, Gls 6d to 03s.
