PURE SEED.

Bj Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Monday. To-day a deputation representing the aeed importers ol Wellington interviewed the Minister for Agriculture,Mr. McJsaJ), regarding the Agricultural Product bale and Importation Bill. It was impossible for merchants to guarantee that all seed would be absolutely free from thistle. The Minister promised to send the Bill to the Agricultural and Pastoral Committee ol the Upper House, and undertook .that the Bill would not be considered before Friday. He recognised that the Bill would not be a success unless the responsibility was eventually put upon the farmer. The deputation could for.ward its views to the committees. Dunedin, Last Night. • A meeting of grain and produce merchants to-day unanimously passed the following resolution, and sent a telegram to the Premier, the Minister for i«nds, and the Hons. J. R. Sinclair and J. B. Callan:—"At a meeting of merchants this morning it was resolved to wire protesting against the Noxious •Weeds Bill being passed in its present form. Tile conditions proposed will not have the effect of putting the responsibility on the grower, producer, or original owner,.and the trading community will suffer considerable hardship if made responsible for the presence o Califoraian thistle in grain and produce. Wfoile appreciating tihe action of the Government in attempting to lid the colony of Oalifornian thistle, we respectfully request that the passing "of the Bill by the Upper House 1» postponed pending merchants being given an opportunity of inspecting a full draft of the Bill, as it is likely to be so far-reading in its effects." It was •greed that representations be sent to Wellington to give evidence before the committee. A reply was received fromMr. MoNaib {o-night suggesting that merchants - should communicate their proposals to Mr. Shirtcliffe, representing the merchants in Wellington.
