PARIHAKA ROAD BOARD
The monthly meeting of the l'arihaka Road Board was held on Wednesday lasit. The members present were: Messrs. J. Young (chairman), Deegan, Harvey, Warner, and Tylee. The chairman moved that a general rate of J / 2 d in the pound should be made. This was seconded by Mr. Harvey. Messrs. Warner and Tylee moved an amendment that the rate should be %<l. Some discussion followed, members arguing that a rate of d was ample for some roads, and that those roads that it would not sulliee for should go for special or separate rates. Mr. Deegan supported the rate of /A and this motion was carried. It was decided to give the Crown Dairy Company fourteen days' notice to remove the gate from the Rahotu road, as .the Board intended to culvert and drain the road and open it for traffic. The foreman was instructed to do the work. Settlers at the top end of the Kina road petitioned the Board to raise a loan of £SOO for forty-ono years at 3'/ 2 per cent, to make about one mile up to Wiromu road.—The Board agreed to take steps to procure the loan.
At the last meeting the Board voted £lO more towards patching on Jhaia road provided the settlers found a similar amount. The settlers promised £ll 10s.—The Board sanctioned work to the cost of £2l 10s to be done by S. Vickery. Hi'. Feavcr wrote asking, for the top end of Iliaia road to 'be made "navigiilble for a milk cart, and enclosed £3 from himself and £1 from Mr. Sorensen as a donation towards the cost. The foreman estimated the work would cost £ls. The Board decided that the work should be done by the foreman's staff. Messrs. Young, Warner, and Tyjoe were appointed to wait on the Egmont County Council with a view to making cheap terms for hire of the crusher. It was resolved to apply to the Public Trustee for part of grant to Puniho and lhaifi roads. Tenders a,re to be called for making ten chains of tlie Kaweora road, and also for forming eighteen chains 011 the upper Waiteika road, Ou Hie suggestion of the foreman it was decided to ask the Public Trustee to fell some bush 011 the side of the Opourapa road, as the shade kept the road wet. It was agreed to find timber for the Dairy Company to put in the culverts required and the approach to the creamery being lmilt 011 Kaliui road. The Roads Department asked for the Board's consent to the Carrington lioad deviation. —Agreed to. General accounts to the amount of £236 and loan accounts £B4 were passed for payment.
