ANOTHER STEAMER SERVICE

BRITAIN AND QUEENSLAND. Loiidoil, September 10, Before liis departure from England Mr. \V. 11. Kidston, Premier of Queensland, completed an arrangement with the British-India Steamship Company for a steamer service to Queensland via Torres Strait. Tlie company receives a subsidy of .£37,000 a year. It will provide a thirty-five days' servicu between London and Thursday Island. Steamers will run monthly, commencing in October next. They will call at Cairns, Townsvillc, Port Aiwa, and any ot'ner port which olTers 150 tons of cargo. Tlie return to England will be via tne Cape. Uniform freight rates will be charged from all Queensland ports. The steamers engaged in the service will be of 5500 tons register.
