The Treasurer's Budget statement shows t'he revenue for the current year to have been .t1,004,000, which is £71,500 above ihe estimate. The expenditure was £1)12,377. The estimated revenue next year is £958,87!), anil the expediture £040,000, but owing ttJ the expected falling-ofl' of the amount returned by the Commonwealth, it is estimated there will be a deficit of £24,000. In order to meet tlie reduced Commonwealth return direct taxation in the. shape of land income taxes is proposed. The Government's programme for the year includes free education.
