TCRF TOPICS. (By "Moturoa.") • Mh Edward i\ Yuile, one of the oldest and best known bookmakers in New Eealand, died at his residence in Wellington yesterday, aiter an illness of tome months' duration, aged 67 years.— Press telegram. •When the question of the advisability 6t holding a Hunt Club meeting in New Plymouth came up for consideration, the enthusiasm shown by followers of the hounds and sportsmen generally encouraged the progenitors of the idea to go ahead and to give the project a fair trial. • It must be very pleasing to those gentlemen who have worked so hard to bring matters to a successful issue to find that horse-owners have respond- '■ ed so enthusiastically, and the list of! acceptances published in yesterday's i i&sue is one which would do credit to any Hunt Club meeting in the Dominion. He seven events have drawn no le->s ' than 83 acceptances, the smallest field {numbering 10 and the largest 15. And not only in point of numbers has the club scored handsomely, but the quality of horses engaged is of a very fair order. The steeplechase course is a first-rate one, and some splendid jumping should be witnessed. The Garrison Band has been encaired. Mr. E. Whittle, nf t lip KVrl

-been engaged. Mr. E. Whittle, of the Red Souse Hotel, is "mine host" of the licensed booth. The first race starts at 12.30 o'clock, and the afternoon train is timed to leave New Plymouth at 5.15 1 pan., thereby giving country patrons ample time to see the races in comfort. At present there is every prospect -f the gathering being favored by fine , weather, and a large attendance is confidently looked forward to.
