STEAMERS IN COLLISION.
Wellington, Friday.—ln Cook Strait yesterday afternoon, off Jackson Hoai, the steamer Penguin, bound from Nelson to Picton, was struck by the coastal steamer Gertie on the port side. Th? belting of the Penguin was damaged, and the Gertie apparently also suffered some injury. After a brief stop both vessels resumed their way. A report of the accident has been sent to the Collector of Customs. The Kotuku arrived yesterday rooming at 6.30 o'clock, and discharged 344 tons of general cargo. She sailed at 4 p.m. for Westport. The Union Company advise that tUe Maitai sailed from Sydney at 4.10 p.m. yesterday for Wellington.
