The defendant, who explained that ne was a ship's steward and had been engaged by a political body to canvass the electorate, stated that he acted in good faith and committed Hie breach unwittingly. His Worship said it was very necessary that the Act should be complied with, otherwise the rolls would be "stuffed." A substantial deterrent would have to he imposed, and ont which he hoped would be a lesson to! other people. A fine of £5 and 3C'fe'' costs was inflicted.
