TO-DAY'S BIG MATCH. TARANAKI V. AUCKLAND. (from Our Special Reporter). Auckland, last Night. The wuather is not over-promising for to-morrow's match, south-westerly cold squalls prevailing for the past two days without much promise of clearing. The ground, however, will aot militate against open play. Excitement is running high hi football circles, and odds have shortened to evens. The Auckland team, with the exception of Gillett, is reported to be very fit and in daily traning durin» the w-cuk. The Taranaki men have had two useful practices. ' A large number of New Plymouth and Taranaki visitors have arrived, and numbers are expected in the mora- i ln gThe men are being hospitably entertained by the Auckland Union, and are confident of playing the game of their lives to-morrow. Taranaki representatives meet Auckland to-day in the Ranfuily Shield match. Neither team lias been beatin this year, and Auckland lias "made no race" of all opponents so far. Th;; Northerners always have a wholesome respect for the men from this province, and there will probably be a big crowd to see the match. Half-time and fulltime scores will be posted on the Daily News boards this afternoon at Avery's, Imperial Hotel, and Red House Hotel. Taranaki will be represented .by >&«•• following: Fullback, A. Hardgraves; three-quarters. (.'. Shoahan, D. Cameron, and E. Dive; five-eighths, J. Hunter (captain) and H. Mynott; halfback, B. Frewin; forwards, J. Colman (wing), H. Whittington, C. Kane, Taniu. Puker 1 , J. Crowley, H. Rothery, and S. O'Sullivan; emergencies, McKay and T. Sheahan. Auckland will be represented by th,> following team:—Full-back, A. Rcnwick; three-quarters, F. Wilson, G. Murray, and J. Johnson; five-eighths, G. Bater and R. Magee; half, Morse; wing forward, G. Gillett; fomvards, F. Herring, J. McGuire, A. Francis, W. Cunningham (lock), G. Nicholson, C. Seeling, and H. Hay ward; emergencies, Coote and Maguirc (Grafton). The Napier High School senior football team will arrive in New Plymouth by to-night's express, and will play a match with the local. High School on Monday afternoon at 2.30 in the Recreation Sports Ground. The team will leave by the 12.50 p.m. train on Tuesday for Patea, playing the combined District High Schools team there on Wednesday.
