Xews conies from Paris J. hat. l'ost-master-General Simvan has decided to trv the Lorimcr automatic telephone system, the advantage of which is that it docs awav with the necessity for telephone girls. The experiment will lie tried at Lyons with 200 subscriber-. Tho Lorimer automatic telephone, which has teen invented in Canada, is fitted at the subscriber's end with a set of discs, by turning which any combination of figures can be obtained. In obtaining the number the subscriber throws electrical impulses of a specific character into his line, the impulses producing effects on a mechanical revolving indicator at the exchange. The mechanical movements are so affected by the incoming impulses that a connection is made within fifteen seconds 'with the desired number. The subscriber then presses a button and calls his correspondent, and the conversation lakes place in the ordinary way. By replacing the receiver the disconnection is made.
