OLD AGE PENSIONS.
THE GERMAN SYSTEM. MB. LLOYD-GEORGE TREMENDOUSLY IMPRESSED. Received 28, 0.2 a.m. London, August 27. Mr. Lloyd-George has authorised a statement that he had not arrived at any definite conclusion regarding the only object of his visit to Germany, namely, to see whether the contributory system could, as far as invalidity and sickness were concerned, be grafted on the British old-age pension scheme. He was tremendously impressed with the perfection of the system whereby Germany raises £34,000,000 sterling for meeting the invalidity, old-age, anil sickness pensions, while the State's contribution merely covers the working ;x----penses. When the clerks and widows, were included, as they would lie shortly, the total would be £53,000,000.
