SUDDEN DEATH. Auckland, Last Night. .Mr. AV. Shirley Km, a prominent Auckland indent and customhouse agent, was attending a meeting at the ollice of Messrs. Dufaur and Biss this afternoon, when he became suddenly unwell. Medical aid was sought, but Mr. Hill expired ja a few minutes. ACCIDENT ON THE RAIJLWAY. Auckland, Last Night. Patrick Smith, employed as a ganger on the railway, met with a serious accident near Penrose to-day. He wasj walking early this morning on the track between EllersJie a'.id Penrose, and hearing a whistle from the 7.40 a.m. train from the former station, jumped on to the other track right in front of the approaching engine. He was hurled on to the other side. Tai train was speedily pulled up. First aid was rendered liy a doctor from iI.M.S. Encounter, wlio was on board t'lie train. The mail was then conveyed to the hospital, IK; is progressing as well as can be expected, although iiis injuries are serious. He has a broken leg, several broken ribs, and his face is badly c«t.
A PENSIONER'S SUICIDE. Chnstchnrch, Last Night. An old age pensioner named Jordonseu committed suicidu yesterday evening at Lc Bon's Bay by hangr.ig himself ia an outhouse near his residence. A SEAMAN iJROWMED. Auckland, Last Night. James Barnutt, A.8., w3io has been boarding at the Sailors' Home, fell over the breastwork at Quay street into tlic harbor this evening, and was drowned. The body has been recovered by the police. SUDDEN DEATHS.
Christchureih, Last Night. A middle-aged man named Thomas Steed Sibbald, well-known in Dunedin and Christcluirch, died suddenly in a restaurant to-night. AN AMERICAN'S SUICIDE. Wellington, Last Night. The police authorities received information tlhis morning that a man appa rcntly in a fit was lying on the beach at Magazine Point, Oriental Bay. On Constable Hood going out about 10.30 o'clock he found the body of a man face downwards on the sand with blood oozing from the mouth, a bub let wound in the left breast, and a revolver at the feet. One chamber of the revolver had been discharged. Dr | Hining was sent for, and, on arrival, I pronounced life to be extinct. The body, which was that of a man about 40 and respectably clothed, was conveyed to tlhe morgue. From papers found on the body, it appears that the man's name is Andrew Pettcrson, and that lie is a recent arrival from American, as letters addressed to that name, Chicago, U.S.A., were found in the pockets. BUSHFELLER KILLED. Hunterville, Wednesday. A man named John Kneebone, S3 years of age, was killed while bushfelling at Pukeroa, a tree falling on him. DcatDi was instantaneous.
