STRIKERS' BACK TIME AND SUPERANN UATtON.

A largely-attended meeting of the Canterbury branch of the Associated Society of liailway Servants was held yesterday for the purpose of considering the position of the strikers of 1881) as to their back-time counting for tilie purposes of superannuation. Strong feeling was shown at the action of the executive ill not taking advantage of Sir Joseph Ward's offer to allow the Society to buy in their back-time for .UISOO, and it was decided to send delegates to all branches in the Dominion to place the position oi the strikers be fore the members. LOAN PROPOSALS REJECTED. Masterton, Last Nig'lit. Polls were taken to-day on a proposal to borrow £-10,00 lor drainage extension and loan conversion purposes, and £7500 for the purchase of Dixon street showgrounds. Both proposals were lost. TUB PARLIAMENTARY TRIPPERS. Auckland, Last Night. The' (ioverniuent and Parliamentary parly left Auckland to-night for Wellington about six o'clock. Sir Joseph Ward stated that the visit woukl be long remembered by all New Zealanders who Iliad taken it,., and it was, he said, eventful and historical. ' THEATRE SEATS. Ohristclnirch, Last Night. The City Council to-night adopted tile by-law making it compulsory to number all theatre soats and to issue tickets to correspond. ANTI-FOLIOE DEMONSTRATION. Napier, Monday. The eases in which three Hastings residents were, charged with assisting ill a demonstration against the police after the hearing of a betting case were before the Court to-day. Defendants applied for a change of venue to Hastings, but Inspector McDonnell vigorously opposed this. Nevertheless no evidence was offered, .arid Hie cases were dismissed.
