THE DARLING DOWNS.
DISAPPOINTED NEW ZEALANDISR. By Association. Christchurch, August 15. Quite a number of Canterbury farmers who have been in search of land have been induced recently to visit tUie Darling Downs hi Queensland, ■where it has been reported that excellent agricultural and pastoral land is to be had at very low prices. Mr. It B. Coward, a Tinwald farmer, who Bias just returned from a trip to Queensland, expresses disappointment at what lie has seen. He says that the land at Darling Downs is undoubtedly cheap, but ho has come to the conclusion that t'hose who have any intention of purchasing land will be'wise to invest their money in Nuw Zealand in spite of the iiigh values ruling in the Dominion. The best of the land oil tlio Downs has already beon taken up, and the land now on the market is of poor quality and remotely situated. The country was just recovering from four months' drought, and feed was scarce, and the stock m exceedingly poor condition. Past droughts have been disastrous, and Mr. Coward prefers the more 'equable climate of New Zealand.
