RICHES OF ROCKEFELLER.
Mr. John IJ. Rockefeller, the wealthiest man who ever lived, made a net! prolit from his various enterprises last year of twelve million pounds sterling. His regular income, year in and year out, is estimated at £20,000 a day, or nearly £3O a minute. His aggregate fortune amounts to at. least £150,01)0,000, and the multi-mil-lionaire has declared himself unable to staite, within several millions, the ;u:tu-« al total of liis colossal wealth. At Jiis present rate of progress lie would be worth in 1027 about £0.3.>,000,000. Even now lie could, it' lie liked, pay every vear the incomes of all European kings "and pa,y oil' national debts, and that without encroaching upon his capital at all. The total wealth of the Standard Oil Trust, which is practically Mr. Rockefeller's propertv, is estimated by a Wall Street banksr at £4,000,000,000. The duty of giving, however, lias not been neglected by Mr. Rockefeller, in spite of the animadversions of his wicmies. The story of bis gifts is almost as amazing as that of his riches. He lias now given about £20,000,0110 in aid of churches, universities, and charities. To Oliicago University College alone he gave £3,000,000. lie presented £200,000 to Yale University last year, lie also promised to give the enormous sum of £10*,000,000 to provide an endowment for the University of Chicago. Altogether Mr. Rockefeller's benefactions amount to some £3,000,1 000 a year.
