Messrs. L. A. Nolan and Co. report:— s On Wednesday, sth jnst., we held ur * monthly sale of hides, skins, etc. We 1 had a good catalogue, competition being brisk and prices good. Hides—As we have repeatedly pointed out hides properly salted realise far anl 1 away the best prices. An extra 3d worth of salt in many cases make a difference of two shillings in return for hides, and (id to !)d in calfskins. Alt I good conditioned hides were keenly competed for. Heavy hides, however, showed a slight tendency to recede. Sheepskins showed a slight upward tendency. Here again, we could point out the mistake of using too little sail. A number of consignments this sale allowed sigais of sweating, which absolutely spoils the pelt and means a clear loss of from (Id to !)d. Tallow showed a considerable improvement on last month. Sundries J sold at fair market rates. We quote: Hides—Ox,'stout, o'/ 4 ; heavy, 5%d to 5%d; medium, f>'/.d to 5%d; light, 4%il to 4%i1. Cow, extra heavy, 4%il to 4y.il, heavy 4>/ 8 d to 4 1 /»il; medium, 4d to 4!4d; light, 3%il to 4y s d; settlers' 2%d to 3%d, according to condition. Horse hides, 2s (id to Ts 3d.
