BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Tlie ISorough Council meets this even-, iug. The Works Committee's report is aa follows:—The committee, having viewed the old railway line and bridge over the llenui stream, recommend that they be empowered to hold a conference witli' the Fitzroy Town Board ami communicate further with the liiiilu..y Department with a view to purchasing the property; that the borough engineer report upon the extraordinarv I rathe in the borough: that in view of the reorganisation of the streets anil waterworks stalls, the borough engineer confer with tile Abattoir Committee as to what assistance the present extensions will necessitate.
The engineer recommends that tins Council nhould convert the old waterworks [limit to its own use rather than sell it, as it could not be expected to bring more than a small proportion of its value. He recommends the retention of the old reservoir as an auxiliary water supply in ease of lire in the centre of the town where the big warehouses, etc.. are situated, lie reports that the provision of a scour valve, at the end of the 21-inch main at the powerhouse would be of no beiielit to the tunnel from a waterworks point of view, neither would it do any harm, it would be of no benefit, because the llow of water in _ the tunnel was now better than ever.' He had requested the town clerk to determine the appointment of .Mr. Hodgson, and had also requested Mr. Hooker to hold himself ill readiness to take up the duties to be relinquished by Mr. Hodgson.
