THE WHITELEY ORCHESTRA
The first concert given by the Whiteley Orchestral Society attracted a good audience last night to the Whitcloy Hall.A somewhat ambitious programme Was staged by the orchestra, but the members emerged from the ordeal with credit to themselves and to the conductor (Mr. 0. H. Lawn), some of th.> instrumental work being very line. The society is to be congratulated upon the efficiency obtained. The vocal portion of the programme was given bv four popular performers, the Misses Fenton and Buckman (2) and Mr.. W. Perry, apart from a good rendering of "Goodnight, Beloved," by a chorus of the orchestral members. The following was the "Amazon,'' orchestra; selection, "Guillaumc Tell." orchestra; song, "Go to Sea," Mr. \'/. Perry; string quartette. "Largo," Miss Blanehett and Messrs. Butler and Blanehett (2); song, "The Vullcv by the Sea" (encore number "No, Sir"), Miss Fenton; selection, "Lieder OhneWorte," orchestra; overture from "Taiicivdi," orchestra; duct, "Sing, Happy Bird," Misses Buckman; cornet solo, ''The Favorite," Mr. C. 11. Lawn (encored); part song, "Good-night, Beloved," mem- j bers of orchestra; and "Operatic Gems" by the orchestra.
