Mellrov. and K Eobertson. i A deputation of settlors on the Kohuratahi road waited on the Council with i regard to the prevalence of noxious ' weeds (blackberry and foxglove) on this road. The deputation asked the Conn--1 eil to make representations to the In- '. speetor of Stock, with a view to the eradication of these weeds—lt was resolved that the Minister of Agriculture lie requested to have foxglove includ.-'d ill 'he second schedule of the Noxions Weeds Act. The engineer was instructed to attend to the matter of the culvert at the 39 mile peg, and to use his discretion as lo repair or renewal of same. He was also authorised to have a shelter shed erected on the pound site and to have the site subdivided, the total cost not to exceed £2O. It was resolved that the engineer be. asked to report on the condition of the fourteen chains on the Mangere road, lately vested in the Council, and that this report, together with a copy of the settlers' letter re the state of the piece of road, be forwarded to the District Road Engineer. It was resolved to grant a slaughtering license to Mr. O'Neill subject to his compliance with the requirements of the Act. hi the event of the "Consent of the Ratepayers" in connection with proposed Mangawhatu road loan, being in the hands of the clerk and in order before the next meeting of the Council, the clerk was instructed to apply to the Treasury forthwith to grant the loan. ' It was resolved that one-third of the revenue allocated to by-roads leading into the Brewer road, be transferred lo the credit of that road. Cr. Jones reported that n meeting held at Makahu re metalling to be done from the Brewer-jvlangaehu road loan, had resolved in favor of metalling the Brewer road to the extent of £IOOO, 'without waiting for Government subsidy. —A discussion ensued as lo the legality of the Council thus varying the terms of , the original petition by spending a portion of the loan moneys in advance of the (Government subsidy, and it ivis eventually resolved that the Council's solicitors'be consulted with reference to a resolution in the form of a counter petition authorising the expenditure of up lo £IOOO on metalling lirewer road in advance of the subsidy, the original petition on which the loan was made liaving deliued the order in which the subsidy and loan moneys were to be spent. The cleric was instructed to r-pply to the Land Hoard to have Ihe thirds on certain sections on the Upper Mangaelui road scheduled as desired bv Mr. Leighton, and in the. event of a favorable reply being received, that the work on the track be gone on with at once. Cr. Jones gave notice of motion to the effect that an amount equivalent to the above-mentioned thirds be granted in aid of the same road, the amount to he drawn from the special fund account. Tlie engineer was empowered to have the culvert on Moluiku road opposite Mr. n'*uUS repaired u.c .i m»t not exceeding £5, and Cr. Meredith was authorised to arrange for means of access over a portion of Aitken street, Strathniore, at a cost not exceeding £l. The clerk was directed to write to the Land Board asking that thirds accrued on the Tawhiwhi road be scheduled for formation instead of maintenance of the read. Tlie Council decided to endorse the application of settlers on the Olmra road with reference to metalling the Taliora saddle. It was resolved to give notice that a general rate of 2%d in the £ on the unimproved value will be struck on the iiilh August. A resolution was carried to the effect that in the Central riding the allocation of rates be l%d to the main roads and Id to the bye-roads.
