Atti meeting of the JJuneuin Presbytery to-day leiurence was made to Uie iiev. d. uibson smiths oook, "Xne Unrist of the Cross," and Rev. K. K. ii. Sutherland gave notice of motion as follows:—"Wnereas the Rev. J. Gibsoa Smith, minister ot this Church, has Oil thnv separate occasions to threw different Prebyterics declared with all solemnity of oath that he sincerely owned ami bclicvvd the doctnuc ot the Cluirch as explained m the Westminster Confession of raith and vowed that he would constantly and firmly adhere thereto and to the utmost of his powvrs assert, maintain, and defenrd same, and whereas he has published a book entitled 'The Christ ol the Cross,' in wliich he announces not onlv h' s disbelief in the confessional doctrine of the death of our Lord, but also his book makes it plain; also that this at- | titude of disbelief and antagonism is not a thing of recent date, and more recent utterances from the pulpit show that it dates back beyond the beginning of his ministry in New Zealand, it is therefore hereby humbly ovortured by the Presbytery of Duuedin to the General Assembly of tne Presbyterian Church of New Zealand to take promises into consideration and to deal with the question involved in such manner as shall to the Assembly seem best for good, of the Church and for the glory of Cod." It was decidedl that "overture'' bo accepted, but thu opinion was expressed that the Dunedin Prcsbyterv should not discuss the matter until the Wellington Presbytery had considered it.
