Steward's .Marriage Validation Bill was discharged. ° Another discussion took place on Hie report of the Public Petitions Committee respecting grants for public works. The Premier held that Mic (lovern-ni.-nt alone had power to place a sum on the Estimates for such work. Mr. Alassey again dissented, and prolestal against the Premier's doctrine, as J'arlh nt had the right to control the expenditure. The report, which had no recommendation to make, was ordered to lie on the table. The Premier referred to the death of the Hon. Air. Keldwiek, and spoke in eulogistic terms of his public services. He mnwd that the House place on record its high sense of the services rendered to the Legislature by deceased, and tcmlw sympathy to the family in their bereavement.
The motion was carried in silence, on tile motion of the Premier, and the House adjourned until 2.:i1) p.m. next day as a mark of respect to the memory of the late Hon. Keldwiek. The House rose at 4.13.
