THE UNEMPLOYED.
A By Telegraph.—i'ress Association. Wellington, Last Night. The cry of the unemployed is decreasing in volume day l>y day. Many of the workless are being drafted away to billets. During last week the local Labor iiureau sent about 130 men to work, private and public, and about U0 names remain on the books. This uiovuing the number of applicants exceeded Saturday's 'total, but it is believed by the Department's officers that the aggregate of unemployment is dwindling. Most of the applicants are single men. The married number only ten per cent. "There are indications of farm work starting again soon," said one of the officers to-day. "We have received several letters from farmers enquiring for suitable hands. About five requests for married couples remain to be satisfied. Thu painting and- carpentry trades are still slack, but there are?, signs of improvements," states Mr. Collins, of the Labor Department.
