THE PEACE CONGRESS

A DEPUTATION OF BISHOPS. Jxllldoll. .July ill. A deputation consisting of the Bishops of liipon, Massachusetts and Perth conveyed to the Universal Peace Congress a resolution from the Lambeth Church Conference urging on all Christian people the duty of allaying race prejudices and promoting the peaceful settlement of trade conflicts and brotherly co-opera-tion for the good of mankind. The Bishop of Perth remarked that the policy of universal service advocated ill Australia was not opposed to t !io principles of peace. War was frequently the result of utterances of irresponsible people, aud if those who wanted a Heel to protect their particular interests in different parts of the world were liable to be summoned to serve in war time they would refrain from such utterances as were sometimes made. (Applause.) He added that Australia sent a message of thanks to the Congress for every effort it could make on bcfialf of international peace. Three members of it lie Congress expressed litter disapproval of the Bishop of Perth's advocacy <>l conscript-ion. The Congress thanked King ICdnanl for receiving the representatives ami thus setting the precedent, lie being the first head of a great Power to personally receive delegates from a Peace Cougress.
