SOUTH AUSTRALIAN LOAX. Adelaide, July 31. j The firm which was negotiating Joan j terms with Lloyds', expplains that the Government is laid open to a charge of breach of faith through the action of its London representative, Mr. Jonkins. Tliefirm's efforts were made in response to requests from more thai) one State Treasurer to compete against' a so-calld London ring. It was not pretended that this firm or anyone else 'could do without brokers, as the ywere just as necessary in connection with 'loans as tea dealers were in the distribution of tea. The firm has succeeded jnarranging tli business in question with the largest Bank in Britain and some brokers of high standing and had made absolutely possible what was said to be impossible. The reason for the failure is a matter for Government investigation. The firm has already intimated that it does not intend to make any claim for commission, but it will demand for the credit of Smith Australia that inquiries be mare by the <io. rernment 'Sis to the reason' why the London representative did not sign the 'agreement.
