THE GAMBLING QUESTION.

An anti-gambling deputation waited on Ihe Premier to-day and asked that bookmakers should not be given a legal status and that race, meetings not controlled by the Racing Conference should not be allowed to license bookmakers or in any way encourage gambling.
The Premier said it was very improvable (hat the gaming laws could be intended this session. The .Ministry uas not interested in the bookmaker or the totalisaor and wished to do the best thing for the country, lie agreed that the number of race meetings should be limited. That had been the intention of the Legislature, and he felt it was in the general interest that that intention should be made ell'eetivc.
