FIRES IN WOOL CARGOES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. A meeting of representatives of the steamship companies trading between New Zealand and England and representatives of insurance companies avis held at Wellington to-day to confer on tho subject of the prevention of lires in wool, lias, tow, or skins shipped from the Dominion. It was arranged to form a deputation to wait upon the Premier on the matter.
SERIOUS CHARGE AGAINST A SCHOOL TEACHER. Duncdin, Last Night. At the Police Court to-day Frank George Mel hop, aged i'i years, a teacher at the Mornington school, was cliargoA on seven informations with indecently assaulting four girls under the age of sixteen years'. Evido\co for the prosecution was that the girls were pupils in the school, and accused was in £hc habit of sitting beside them and committing offences during school hours. Accus'-d was committed for trial on all charges, bail being allowed, accused in his own recognisance of iiiW and two sureties of .ii'loo each.
HUMANISED MILK. Auckland, Last Night. A deputation from the Infant Life Protection Society waited on the Charitable Aid Hoard to-day and urged that humanised milk should be supplied free lo children whose parents are in needy circumstances.- The Charitable Aid Committee was empowered to act where necessary.
CANTERBURY COLLEC K. Christcliureh, Last Night. At ii meeting of the Canterbury College Uusiril of Governors to-day objeclion was tnki'ii to a clause in the Bill now being promoted by the Board providing for tho payment of .€3OO mutual honorarium to the chairman. A proposal to reduce the amount to £IOO was, however, lost by 8 votes to 7.
A YOUTHFUL "DRUNK." Aucklaud, Last Night. At the, Police Court this afternoon a prohibition order was made against a seventeen-year-old youth.
