WHO IS THE MURDERER?
THE VVESTPORT CASE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Westport, July 25. There was another development in t'he perjury case to-day. The prosecution obtained consent to call Mrs, Johanna Philips, widow. Slie stated that on the night of the murder she saw two men coming across the street towards the shed where Burke was subsequently found. She saw a scuffle and saw the small man of the two strike a match. She saw Mrs Pearce, who lind previously described seeing Connelly assault I liurke, standing in the street. She explained her previous silence by her bad health and the fear of having to come into Court and because she thought the men would get off. The Magistrate struck out six of the perjury counts, but ruled that there was a case to answer on the others, covering the main charge that prisoner committed perjury in swearing that Ifalinen and Anderson killed liurke. Evidence will be taken on Monday.
