IN BANKRUPTCY.

The adjourned meeting of creditors in the estate of Jolni Bertie, lately of Waitara, hotclkeeper, was held at the office of tlie Deputy Oilicial Assignee (Mr. J. S. S. Medley) on Friday. Mr. Medley was in the chair.

Bankrupt, under oath, said lie had given up possession of the hotel to Johnston on 21st April. To Mr. lverr—He paid Staples and Co. £B2 because bo had to. He could not help himself. To Mr. Townsend—lie had not paid Mr. Sampson a cheque since he left the hotel. About the end of April Mr. Granville served a summons on him. lie did not have a largo sum of money in his possession. He did not know how much. He did not tell Mr. Granville lie would get nothing if lie (bankrupt) filed. He told him he would have to go in with the other creditors.

Proceeding, bankrupt said ho received a judgment summons from Mr. Klemier a few days before lie liled. He received .ill 'ls conduct money. It cost him this to conic up. Townsend—The £l2O lie received from Mr. Johnston was for stock, not furniture. He paid £2O to Mrs. Bertie to purchase furniture and blanket.

On the motion of Messrs, Goldwater snid Granville it was decided to appoint a committee to go into liertie's trade account, etc. Messrs. Goldwater and Watkins and the Deputy Official Aswere appointed. ' To Mr. Townsend bankrupt said Mrs. Bertio took away 'blankets, etc., when she. left, but the valuo did not exceed £25. The meeting was then adjourned sine die.
