ough engineer be authorised to give Mr. Jii'jiclle an approach to his section in iluHer street; that Mrs. Crocker be informed that upon her paying half coat the Council will lay a %-inch waterservice to section H)7, Shortland street'; lijat Mr. Butlimore's request for repairs in llobson street bo referred- to thn engineer to deal with; that the engineer be instructed to report as to what expenditure will be necessary to repair tluj damage done, to borough streets by the extraordinary trallie on behalf if lhe Carringtou Koad Board, and that the. 1 Carringtou Koad Board be required to refund to the Council the expenditure incurred by reason of sueh extraordinary trallie; that- the borough engineer be authorised to reorganise the streets and waterworks stall's as recommended bv him in his report to the committee; that the request of the Electric Light Committee for a scour valve at the tunnel Ite referred to the borough engineer to report upon; that the borough engineer report at what price the Council will be able to supply and deliver in the borough shingle from the beach under the contract with the Harbor Boar* 5 ; thfifr the Town Clerk bo instructed to give notice required under by-law 65 terminating all contracts for the supply of water for motive- power under by-law 04, and that in future all water for motive power be charged by meter; that tho By-laws Committee be requested to provide for the ropeal'of by-law 64.
ENGINEER'S REPORT. Mr. A. I-I. Kendall, borough engineer, reports that he has made a trial of haulage of stone into town, using the truces provided some veal's ago, and thc cost worked out at Bs !)d per cubic yard; in summer, with two (rucks at work, the cost should be materially reduced. lie would lose 110 opportunity of recommending any improvement or economy, lie reported that Messrs. EEEUTRIC UUHT COMMITTEE. Tiie to recommend: That the resolution fixing the minimum charge at 2s Ud be rescinded, and the minirau n charge be fixed at Is 4d per month for lighting, with discount of 4d; Is (id per month for heating, discount (id; Oil per horse-power for motors, with discount of 3d; thc discounts to be allowed only if the accounts arc, paid before the 25M of each month; that the following be fixed as the hours during which electrical motors may be used, with authority to the electrical ongincer to grant smh special extensions as may be necessary; liaily, with the exception of Sundays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; during the months of May, June, duly, and August, motors over 5 h.p., S a.m. to 4 p.m. only. RESERVES COMMITTEE.
This committee recommends leasing tho old reading-room on one night a week to Miss Humphries; permission for the lessee of one of thc Council's reserves to mortgage; that iinal notice of intention to cancel a lease lie given ui another tenant unless his rent be paid by Ist August next; that a row of karaka trees be planted in place of the pinus insignis removed at the cemetery; and that the ongincer have the sexton's cottage repaired! ' DRAINAGE COMMITTEE.
Tlie. Drainage Committee reeommen.ls the expenditure of ,-€25 upon a sewer in Weymouth street, from St. Auhyn street to Hine street, upon Mr. R. Heard letting a contract for his new residenci: and the laying of a sewer in Molcsworth street from (lover street to Davidson street (estimated cost £97); that the solicitors in the estate of the lato Mr. 11. Hooker lie requested to expedite the connection with the sewers of tlie properly in Water lane; and that the Council cannot see its way to connect certain properties with tlie. sowers, but will give the owners further time in which to connect. BATHS COMMITTEE. <
The Baths Committee submits to tho Council three names selected by them from the list of applicants for the position of custodian at tho baths.
