THE DISAPPEARING KAI'KI. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. Reference to the last disappearing kauri was made tt t last night's meeting of the Trades and Labor Council, and a resolution was passed urging the Government to place a heavy export duty on that timber. Several members stated that it was possible to buy the article cheaper in Sydney than in Auckland, while another speaker was positive that a timber ring existed locally. The president remarked that the trouble was caused through the kauri being exported in Hitches, wliilc another member considered that it should ail be sawn in Auckland Before forwarding the resolution to the Government, it was decided to submit it to the North Auckland Timber Workers' Union n.r their approval.

WELLINGTON I'ATEN'f SLIP. Wellington, Last Night. The Wellington Harbor Hoard today decided definitely to enter into an agreement for the acquisition of the Wellington patent slip. The Slip Company is to remain in possession of the property for twenty-five years, when the Board shall pay £30,000 and own the slip. A portion of the land not occupied by the slip is to be set apart for the use of the Union Steamship Company, which is to have the offer of this portion as a Glasgow lease at the end of the 25 years. HARBOR BOARD SUFFRAGE. Wellington, Last Night. The Harbor Board to-day resolved that whereas it being the intention of the Government to remodel the constitution of iUrbor boards throughout the colony, the time therefore being opportune, this Board recommends the Minister in churge of the Bill to consider the desirability of all representatives on harbor boards being elected by tnjb. people on the basis of the municipal franchise.
I AN UNPOPULAR DECISfON. Bunedin, Last Night. A deputation, headed by the Primate, waited on the Charitable' Aid Board to<l«y to protest against the conditfions imposed by the Board that Children for whom payment was made by the Board should attend the State school. Bishop Neville, with some heat, asked where tnc Board found authority in the Act for the condition jmposedj and oUicr members of the deputation pointed out that some of the children were mentally weak and not fit to attend a public school. After discussion, the Board, by i) votes to 3, decided to adhere to its previous decision.
BREWERY AFrRE. Auckland, Last Nigdit. A fire broke out in Campbell and Eh. renfried's Albert Brewery at 7 o'clock tonight, the outbreak being hi the malting house. The fire burned furiously for some time, the brigade having all it could do to keep it under control. This was finally managed, and, shortly after 11 o'clock, the fire was subdued. Tli? damage is estimated at about C-iOOO. For some time the Albert Ho. lei, which has the frontage to tlie brewcry, was in danger, and the boarders and servants vacated the premises but returned when the fire was controlled.
