TARANAKI LAND BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Taranak! Land Board was held on Tuosftny. The Commissioner of Crown Lands, "Mr. F. Simpson, was in the chair. There were

P. Kelly to F. J. and M. Kelly, Jan., section '3, block 11, Omona.—Mr. Kelly waited on the Board and explained the reason for wishing to transfer. This was considered satisfactory, and the transfer approved. Snow and Olson to A. W. and 11. J. Olsen, section 5, block 7, Aria.—Decided to recommend transfer for approval when improvements are up to date. A. S. Burke to G, T. B. Kenan, sectbn 17, block s,,Upper Waitara.—Resolved that transfer be approved provided ranger's report as to residence is favorable, and that the tansferec be informed the residence must be continued.

M. O'Sullivan tc J. and 11. T. Dalton, sections 2 and 3, block 11, Opaku.--Consideration ■ deferred.

J. 11. Golding to G. E. Anderson, section 3, block,s, ami section 10, block 0, Pouatu.—Deferred for ranger's report. IMPROVED-FARM SETTLERS.

The following improved-farm settlers applied for, their leases to be issued:— Win. Print, section 15, block 10, .Ohura; K. Owens, section 10, block 12, Aria; 1!. Wallace, section 2, block 0, Totoro; R. M. Dunn, section 11, block 12, Aria; J/. Julian, section 5, block 3, Ohura; 11. (icangc, section (i, Mock 13, Ohura; E. .'. Smith, section (i, block 10, Aria. Resolved that leases be issued according! v. CRAZING RUNS. The ranger's report on small grazing runs 34 and 13, Opaku S.D., was agah considered, and it was resolved that the report should be adopted, and that it should )>e a recommendation to the Government that the lands lie offered for selection under the optional conditions of Hie Land Acts, weighted with valuation for improvements. ADDITIONAL LAND. S. .1. Crozier applied for sections 97, OS. and !)!). block 4, Paritutu, Spotswood Settlement, as an addition to his holding.—The matter ivas left in the hands of the Commissioner. S. Lowe and A Bishell applied for section 3, block 14, Upper Wiiitara, as an addition to their holdings.—Consideration was deferred until next meting. FREEHOLD. An application of W, .1. IS. Dawliag to convert the tenure of sections 17 and 22, block 3, Onionii, to freehold was approved. SURRENDER REFUSED. Ranger Twigs reported on section 601, l'atea district, which the lessee, R. B. Hamilton, applied to surrender.—Resolved that the application be refused. THIRDS. The following local bodies submitted proposals for expenditure of accrued thirds:—Clifton County Council £3156 Its' Hid; Stratford County Council, £542 Ills 4d; Moa Road Hoard. .€l4 4s 2d. These were approved, provided the ranger's report is satisfactory. EXTENSION FOR IMPROVEMENTS R. and R. A. Kirton asked what extension of time tliey would be allowed to effect improvements on section !), block 11, Upper Waitara, owing to difficulty of access.—lt was decided to notify applicants that any period of extension granted would expire, on ltltli February, •1U0!). ,■ "

FORFEITURE. ' * W. R. Cowell wrote that he desired to forfeit section 4, block 3, Upper Waitara, as the climate was too damp.— Agreed to, and it was decided to re-otl'er the land.

The Commissioner reported that the sub-lease of section 2, block 10, Omona, from S. Turkinglon to C. F. M. Turkington had been registered. Notice of forfeiture was therefore withdrawn.

11. J. Dougherty appealed against the forfeiture of section Hi, block IS, Ohura? He appeared before the Board, and it was resolved that the forfeiture be suspended for six months, to be confirmed if the improvements are not then up-to-date.

(Mr. Wright) appealed against the forfeiture of section 23, block 4, Iluiroa, and submitted evidence of residence by former tenants. He applied to transfer to R. T. Cowcrn.—lt was resolved that the evidence of residence be accepted as satisfactory, and that the transfer be approved.

The Commissioner reported that the rent overdue by A. Frainlin on sections 4!1, 51, and 108, block 13, Pouatu, had been paid.

Mr. T. C. Fookes waited on the Board and explained the reason for the delay, and the resolution of forfeiture was rescinded.

Dr. Rowlands wrote that the likelihood of his building in Mangaroa township was now very remote. He expressed his willingness to purchase the sections applied for by him and offer them to the Ohura Medical Association.—lt was resolved that the application to dispose of these sections should be rescinded. SURRENDER. A. 11. Lovegrovc applied to surrender section 74. block 4, Paritntu, Spntswood Settlement, owing to losses incurred by the destruction of his house by fire.— Agreed to.

RANTiER - S REPORT. Ranger IT. T. Twiss reported having [ inspected fourteen holdings comprising ian area of 7021 acres. Improvements required amounted to £2337. and those effected amounted to £3(152. three selectors were not residing, one had not effected sufficient improvements, and two had not effected sufficient improvements anil were also non-resident. Selectors in default will be written to. BUSH AND SWAMP ACT. R. F. Roth asked that the provisions of the Bush and Swamp Act should be extended to section !>, block 15, Ohura. recently transferred to him,—lt was resolved: "That the Hoard cannot see its way to relieve the tenant of payment of rent."

If was decided lo recommend the Minister of Lands to re-cousider the forfeit lire of F. Calgher's interest in section 72. block 14, Pouatu. NON-COMPLIANCE.

Taurnkawa. non-residence, etc.—Resolved that forfeiture should be confirmed if transfer were not completed by next meeting. T. West, section 13, block 9, Totoro, non-residence, applied, to take son into partnership.—Approved, but decided that son must reside on the. land. .(. McAvady. section 4, block 2, Olinn, non-residence (living on section 0, block 7. Ohura).—Application to live on seclion 0 refused and applicant allowed six month in which to be residing on his own section.

S. Riddle, section 0, block 10, Totoro, non-residence.—Notice to forfeit. 1\ S. Thomas, section 2, block 0, Ana, non-residence—Notice to forfeit. -Mrs. Bessie Loveday, section 2, block <>, Ohura, non-residence.—Residing on section 4, block 10, Ohura, allowed A. M. Gill, section 11, block 2, Heao. iiim-rosidenco.-Six months* extension of time granted within which to reside, 11. Ryan, section 13, block 13, Ohura, uon-residcnce. - Application for three mon.hs' extension of time i u which t,> reside was granted. T. Elizabeth Old, section 17, block 14, Ohura, non-residence.—Residing on section II) with her husband agreed to. S. S. (Jorrigan, section 2(i, block 8, Ngaire, non-residence. Postponed to next meeting. E. Brauigan, section 25, Mock 14, (Ihura, nou-rosidoncc.—Three months' extension granted. G. J. llaggie, section 10, block 13. Ohura, non-residence.—if not residing in a bona tide manner section to be forfeited. J. B. Waddell, section 8, block 12, Aria, family not residing—Resolved that interest of the selector should be declared forfeited.

S. Wind, section 15, block 12, Aria, non-residence.—Three months' extension granted.

O. Joyce, section 10, block 1), Ohura, non-residence.—Deferred. GENERAL.

J. B. Carter applied for a portion of section «, block 1, Aria, to be added ro section 22, block 15, Aria, to improve her access.—Refused.

C. C. Neilson gave notice of his intention to purchase the fee simple of sections 0 and 7, block 7, Waro.—Kcsol- ed that Ranger Tolnie should be appointed appraiser for the purpose of valuation. O. 11. Currie asked that the portion of section 5, block 1, Ohura, originally surveyed into section 22, block 2, Ohura, be restored to that section.—Refused.

The Commissioner reported that £4OO had been paid as valuation for improvements on sections 107 and 109, block (i, Pouatu. It was decided to pay the amount to the public account for credit of the Lands and Survey Vote. Ranger 11. T. Twiss reported having resumed possession of section !), block 5, Kapara—Decided to re-offer the section under optional conditions. Ranger E. Tolnie submitted prices of sections for disposal in Aria township and suburbs. These, were adopted and it was decided to offer the sections for sale.
