ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
FATAL I'ALL FUOM A HORSE.

Mr. V. G. Day, S.M., held an inquest to-day on the body of Corric James; Batchelor, twelve years of age, who belonged to Wainiate and who was killed at -Metliven yesterday. The evidence showed that the deceased was leading a mare which bolted and dashed the lad against a gate-post. A verdict of accidental death was returned. THE RAILWAY FATALITY. Christcimrch, Last Night. With reference to the fatality on the second express yesterday, the police state that inquiries made locally went to show that the girl, Laura Goodwin, left her home in 'fay street, Richmond, yesterday, about 11 'a.m. She said that she would return shortly, and gave no indication that she intended leaving town. Though she did not return for lunch, no anxiety was fell, and it was not'until 5 p.m. that any enquiry was made about her. A relative then went out to Iticcartoii, thinking that (lie girl might he paying a visit to friends. Ami. this mission proved fruitless, and news had come through of a fatal railway accident, the deceased's sister called at the police station and asked that enquiries lie made. She could not, J(pwevcr. suggest any reason for (he gin leaving home in this abrupt way. This morning some relatives proceeded to Tiniaru by the first express,, and'apparently their worst fears have been verified.
