LOCAL LABOUR DISPUTE
SLAUGHTERING AT THE ABATTOIRS. ALLEGED INSULTING LETTER. The Borough Council's Abattoir Committee held a special meeting last night to consider the letter from the Auckland Slaughtermen's Union in connection with the recent decision of the Council that the manager of the municipal abattoir should refund to the Council ,C(i <!s claimed by Messrs, (Inmlin and Co. for hides cut at the abattoir. Strong exception was taken to the language ill which the hitter was couched, and the following resolutions were carried:— That the letter from the secretary of the Auckland 'Slaughtermen's Union re damaged hides, being contrary to fact and insulting in its terms, be not received, aiul the Council adhere to its previous decision; that Ihe letter from the secretary of the Auckland Slaughter, men's Union with reference to the adoption of the Auckland award at the abattoirs be deferred for further considerilion; that the Town Clerk be instructed to communicate with those abattoirs where the contract system of killing is in existence, and ascertain whether the system is a success and the terms upon which the contracts are let.
