PERSONAL.

The Rev. G. Barclay, pioneer Presbyterian clergyman of South Canterbury, has died after a short illness. Deceased was the father of Mr. A. R. Barclay,, M.l'., and of Dr. Barclay. At the Hospital Board meeting yesterday the following resolution was carried:—That members of this Board tender to Mr Clias. Andrews and family their heartfelt sympathy and condolence in the recent bereavement they have sustained.

Another of the pioneers of this dis-. trict passed away on Sunday, in tha person of Mrs. M." J. Middleton. daughter of the late Mr. Chas. liamblyn. Deceased was born in Holsworthy, Devonshire, in ISM, and came to New Zen-' land with, her parent# in the Ame'lO Thompson, the second ship to arrive with early settlers, landing at New Ply. mouth on September 3, 1841. During the Maori she was sent with others to Kelson, but returned in remaining a resident of New Plyinoutli up to the time of her death. She diedi on Sunday afternoon after very brief warning, liavinW a seizure at m'id-da.y. Medical aid was obtained but without avail, the cause of death being rupture of a blood vessel on the brain. Illcli end was very peaceful. She leaves two children—Mrs. A. B. R. Fookes and Mr C. T. Mills, both of New Plymouth. 1
