STUDY OF THE POLYNESIAN LANGUAGE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The following resolutions were carried at the Maori Congress to-day:— That in the opinion of this Congress it is desirable that the study of the Polynesian language should be encouraged in connection with the University of New Zealand, and that for the purpose a committee be appointed to confer upon the subject with tlic Senate of the University and the councils of tne affiliated colleges, which committee to consist of the president (Sir Robert Stout) Mr. S. Percy Smith (president ot the Polynesian Society), Dr. Hocken, Mr. Justice Chapman, Professor McMillan Brown, Archdeacon Walsh, Mr Elsdedon Best, Mr. R. D. D. McLean, liishop Williams, Mr. A. Hamilton, Mr A. H. Turnbull, Mr. A. Ngata, M.P., Mr. E. Trcgear, Dr. Ruck, Mr. 11. ,1. Ell, M.P., Professor 11. 15. Kirk, Rev. I'\ Simluwns', and the mover, Mr Hamilton to be convenor; that it be a direction from t'his, Congress to the various Maori Councils as at present constituted to collect in their respective districts all available legendary lore, traditions, waiatas, poems, proverbs, and so on, and send them in to an executive to be appointed in Wellington.
