-DAMAGE IN XHIO TAIEKI. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. A special meeting of the Taieri County Council to-day received a report of the county engineer, estimating, as far as could at present he ascertained, the damage to roads and bridges at £SOOO. it was resolved to ask the Government fin' a grant to that amount and send a deputation to Wellington in support oi the claim, and Mr. Donald Keid, M.l'. for Taieri, and the Dunedin City members to be asked to assist the furtherance of same. It was also resolved to wire Y'lic Prime Minister requesting that feed for starving stock be railed to Taieri free, and that stock be railed free to places where feed is obtainable. Instructions have been given to the engineer to cut road embanknientß where necessary and to construct temporary crossings. ' The water is still deep at the lower ' end of Taieri Plain. Passenger traffic has been resumed on the Mosgiel-Outram branch. The snow has not yet been cleared from the Otago Central line near Wcdderburn, and trains to-morrow will not run past Ranfurly. , At. flic upper end of the Taieri l'lain it is estimated that £I3OO will easily cover all losses of live stock and about £llOO in other losses. The losses in the llenley district cannot yet be estimated.

The snow ceased falling at Naseby late yesterday afternoon, and was succeeded by a sharp frost. The men are still busy cuttings tracks through the snow, and arc likely to bo engaged in this work for several days. Several residents are out of coal and depending on neighbors for supplies. Stocks of kerosene were sold, out to-dily, and butter aiid milk are becoming scarce.
