The St. Albans police were imormed about 0.15 yesterday morning tiuil a box containing the body of a newlyborn male child was lying in North street, near the residence of Mr. lidward Wilson, who. made the discovery. Constable -.cClinohey visited the locality and found the oudy inside a box enclosed in » sugar liag, and lat|.T on .conveyed it to tile morgue. The ap pea ranee of the box seemed to indicate that it had been buried. It is understood the parents of the child are married people. An inquest was Ihcld today. .Medical evidence was given to the cijeet that the child was still-born. A .verdict was relumed accordingly. BENT ON SIiLF-fIESTKUOTION. Invercargill, Last Might. Kobert Little, wlio was brought in from Wiiiton on Friday after having sliglitly cut his throat, was remanded. While in the cells at the gaol lie tore the bandages from his throat and attempted to hang himself. He will probably be sent to the Seacliff Asylum.
INQUEST ON AN INFANT. Duncdin, Last Night. The inquest begun on 27th June concerning the death of an illegitimate female child named House in Royal Terrace on 25th June, was continued today. 'The only fresh evidence was that .of Dr. Ward, who testified to the statement made to him by the mother. The jury returned u verdict lo Hie effect that the child died of hemorrhage, ttic result of negligence, but expressed the .opinion tliat the neglect was not wilful on the part of the mother.
