TRAIN ACCIDENT.
MIRACULOUS ESCAPES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Hokitika, Monday. The late passenger train from Greymouth oil Saturday night ran m*o three bullocks near Stafford. The engine and tile Iti'st carriage .were derailed. The engine travelled sonic distance and then toppled oier on the line. The driver and lircmaii had a miraculous escape. The engine was considerably The front carriage broke away iron) the engine and went oil' the line on the opposite side, capsizing Into the bush. A hockey team and some other passengers were ill the carriage, but all escaped with a few bruises and scratches.
As the carriage toppled over the lights went out. Then steam from the engine poured into the carriage creating some little confusion. The escape from a serious disaster was in"»t miraculous. The remainder of the train kept to the line. Tlu' overturned carriage is very Seriousiy damaged. There have been frequent accidents on the line through the straying of cattle, and there is a feeling that the line should be securely fenced.
