SALVATION PEOPLE'S PALACE
OPENED Bl' THE I'iiEMIER. By Telegraph,—Press Association, Wellington, Last Night. The Salvation Army's new people's palace in Cuba street was opened by the Prime Minister tins afternoon. The building contains 'M bedrooms with 134 beds, seven sitting rooms, and a large dining hall. The bedrooms occupy the two upper floors, and on the ground floor there are the dining room, with seating accommodation for IUO, ollicers' room, ladies' sitting room, kitchen, scullery, lavatory, etc. All of the. rooms arc beautifully furnished, ami there are twelve bathrooms with hot and cold water. The People's Palace Hotel will not supplant the old Workmen's Hotel, which will be kept going for casuals, and will provide cheap beds and meals as in the past. The Palace Hotel will supply a superior class 01 accommodation, and meals will be to Is each, or tickets will be provided it 10s per dozen. Board and lodging will be provided at 25s a week, or os per day. The funds for the undertaking have been advanced from the Salvation Army's Property Fund, Any profits will go to support the social work of the Salvation Army, and towards the upkeep f oi other homes that are not self-supporting. The heads of all departments will be Salvation Army officers. All the cooks and other employees will be paid wages at the current union rates.
