An accident occurred this afternoon; by which ,Mr. ; U- Barker, a well known settler of lledclifl's, Canterbury, and w cently a resident, of this district, met • his death. Deceased and Mr. Averill. manager of the Maugatoro station, were driving home when the hor»c shied. Both were thrown over an.embankment. Barker was not (seriously injured, but being a sufferer from heart disease, sue cunibed to the shock.
