A knowledge of men, such as is generally conceded to be an important phase of a business man's education, may be said to consits of the following features: A general idea of the prevalent types of human character and the ability to classify individuals in a general way without too closely associating an individual with siK*h characteristics of the general type as do not strictly belong to him. The ability to know to a practical certainty what a certain type of man, or a certain individual, would do or say under certain circumstances. Tlie power to judge how far an individual is to be trusted with information or responsibility. An insight into a man's h ading motives, aims, ambitions, habits, weak wsse'<, and the burdens under which he is labouring. A knowledge of a man's education or ••iivironinent.' so far as it would iniluojice ilu* nature and character of his thoughts. The ability to perceive ihe extent to which a man is acting on his own thought* or the policies and suggestions u*' another. A perception of character that distinguishes between the sincere unui and /he pretender. |
