Tile young ladies of this district are very busy getting tilings ready for their ball which is to be held this (Wednesday) evening. The ladies are cluing all theycan to make the function a success and all they are wishing for is a nuts night.
RAUOTU. Shooting for the trophy presented by Captain Colmcr advanced another stage on Saturday, when Mr. Field suceeded m getting a win. There were six competitors. The many friends of Mr and Mrs. X. Duggan will regret to len.ru of t.no death of their fourth child. E.ui.y. a bright little girl of. sisvcn years, which sad event took place last Saturday. The little one had been under the doctor's carc for some time past, and oil .Saturday -Mrs. Duggan was taking her in to New Plymouth by coach so as to have her near the doctor, but before reaching New Plymouth she died. The ttui..ra! took place at Okato on Monday. .We are pleased to note that Mr. T. P. IJujywm has been appointed a J.P. Tl:e pleasant side was that Rev. Fisher was going to be clergyman in a Cathedral, which was something grand, and aho because he was going to a warmer climate that would be beneficial to Mrs. Fisher. Rev. Fisher, in reply, returned thanks tor the unexpected present, and stated that he came here as an English- * man to dwell amongst fellow English- < men, and found he had a good many j things to learn, lie thought it a wise J thing for churchmen not to be chary in •staking part iu social entertainment, Wause church life should pervade all our doing, whether business or social. W\e should endeavor to enjoy ourselves as Christian people. He had* to express Mrs. Fisher's deep distress at not being present, but her health would not permit of it. f Mr. Willoughby conducted service for , the Church of England on Sunday afternoon. There was a good congregation. The Oaonui Dairy Co. are going to erect a new creamery on the Kahui road this winter.
