Chamberlain maintained that pensions ought to be allowed to go to places oversea where" their friends live. | Air. Ll'Oyd-CJeorgo explained that the 1 Coveriiment desired the pensions to be payable under Ihe same conditions as prevailed in the colonies, namely, wnile Uie claimant resided in the colonies. Absence for a brief period would not eauSe forfeiture.
The amendment was rejected by a majority of 275.

The ii'li was promoted by the National ilygenie League and aims at giving all employees full Sunday rest, or, if that is impossible on Sunday, every fortnight ilnd a rest day in the interval.
Lord Beiutchanip opposed the Bill. , The Archbishop of Canterbury urged the ventilation of the subject before legislation was passed. Lord Lansdowne said it was impossible to acepl the Hill iu its present form. The Bill was withdrawn.
