NO-LICENSE CONVENTION.

By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Wednesday. Representatives of the No-license Councils in each electorate, of the Dominion met at Wellington this morning. Mr. S. A. Adams, president of the New Zealand Alliance, occupied the chair, and welcomed the delegates. He congratulated them on the position of the no-license cause. The Alliance, 1 e said, had been formed twenty-two years ago by the late Sir W. Fox, who at great personal expense and expenditure of energy delivered addresses in vario is towns and cities. Since then the cause had advanced by leaps and bounds. Nolicense had been carried by Mataura, Clutha, Invercargill, Grey Lynn, and Oaanaru, and for a short time had been in operation at Newtown and Port Chalmers. The majority of the electors in New Zealand were with the no-license party and it was certain that the nolicense vote would grow numerically villi proportionately. He urged that the.e ■should be no laxity of effort until the Dominion was freed from tho liquor traffic. Tho annual report was adopted. A report on ''How goes the tight'/" was given by representatives from various provinces. Auckland was represented by Mr. 11. French, Taranaki by Rev. J. Guy, Wellington by Rev. W.'j. Williams, Canterbury by Kev. S. La wry, Nelson by llev. S. Jciikin, and Otago by Mr JlcSkmniing. Miss Roberts spoke on behalf c f Christehurcli. Wellington, Last Night. , Resolutions were passed asking for legislation so that local option may ht settled by absolute majority rule, an,; that the people he given Dominion.asj well as local option vote on a majority basis. It was decided to reco;mmenil Leagues in the Dominion to make a special contribution in aid of the cause ,Tii the Taumarunui electorate. Mr. A. S. Adams and others addressed a meeting in the Town Hall concert room, to-night.
