CHAIRMAN'S REPORT. The Chairman reported that the following H[<|H>intiuiMits had been made:— Central School, Mr. Bocwk, from July Ist; Tulutawa, Mt-s tariiiichacl, from July Ist; Okato, Mi- Ilartlett, from July 1-t. The loliowing temporary appointments had been made.—lnglcwood, Mis* Sinclair being forced through throat trouble lo take one month's leave ot absence, Mi-s Ki»rdau »h; appointed teuiporarilv from .nine Ist: Onata, Mis* F. O'Brien from July Ist: Kttimiro, Mi-, McMillan from '.Jnly Ist; Tulutawa, Miss McMillan from June Kith to June 30th. The Department having increased the grant for the additions to tile teacher's residence at Te Kiri by £25, the chairman had directed the architect to accept the tender and carry out the addition-. The report was adopted. ARCHITECTS REPORT. Mr. J. Sanderson, the Hoard's architect, reported that since the last meeting he had visitou the Okokc school. The building was well advanced. Tlu
contractor was making a good job, an I the timber was quite up to requirements. The lining for the inside had not arrived. When it did arrive it would have to be slacked for some time, so that it would be well seasoned. Tenders hau been called for a resideuee at ihe Uruti school. Plan, were being prepared for addition- to the Raliottt school anu other work at the residence. With regard to the Piliama school, the tender of Messrs. Blockley had been accepted. and the work would be proceeded with at once. Plans had been prepared for a residence at the Hniakania school and tracings sent to the Department. The report was adopted. On account of the settler, at okoke' desiring to have the school opening before the building was properly finished. the chairman was authorised to have the school opened as soon as po,-iblo. provided satisfactory arrangement s could be made with the contractor.

Mr. Xorri-'s room would be suitable in every way. The settlers speak' very highly of Miss Bricked, who i> willing to undertake the duties of teacher. I have no hesitation in recommending that the |>etition of the settlers in the Maupaehu district for the e«talilishmeiit of a temporary school be granted, that the necessary steps be taken for obtaining furniture and fixings, and that, ou the thief Inspector being satisfied of the i|Ualifications of Mi-s Ilrickell.' -he Ik- appointed teacher. The report was adopted. Mr. Kennedy was requested to attend the meeting at Mohakau in the interests 01 the Board. The Board resinned vesterdav morning. SCHOOL KOU OKAU. Mr. \V. A. Hatlantyne, Chief Inspector, reported that he had inquired into the question the erection of a new school at Okaii. He was not altogether -atisfied that file settlement was suflirieiitly developed to warrant the erection of a building on the proposed site. Imt he recommended that a temporary -ehool should V established on condition that the settlers provided a building, to lie rented by the Board. If this recommendation were given effect to, V Board would later on be' better able [» decide whether it was justified ill ■recting a permanent building on the ■if -ugge-tcd. If the settlers were sin •en- in their desire for a school, they ■liould readily accept, this offer. The n-|iort was adopted. AIDITINC ACCOUNTS. The Auditor (Mr. I'. S. M'hilcombe) reported that he had completed Hi • audit of the committees' accounts for the year ending .March 31st. I WIS, with the exception of tho-e of the Pukearuhe and WliangamoiiiOiia committees. the Albert, Upper and 'lxuver Kent and Raupuha schools should be reduced by half-an-hour. and the school, dismissed at .') p.m. during the winter months. 11l accordance with the recommendations of the school committees ail'ected the following mimes were added to make up the required number: Oakura. Messr,. w. ca\e ami ■). Loonov; Malioc. Messrs. licjdhcad and Kemp." The Tariki School Committee wrote asking if a grant had been made for the erection of a teacher's residence at Tariki. It was decided that the Tariki committee should be informed that the erection ol a residence did not rest with the Hoard, but with the Department, and that the Board was doing its best I to (d)taiu from the Department a grant I for the purpose. An application from the Stratford School Committee for a shelter shed was referred to the Fast Ward members of the Hoard to inquire into and report on at the next meeting of the Board. It was decided (hat (he Stratford District High Seliool Committee, with a member to be appointed bv each con liihutiwr local bode, should'be Ihe committee of the Stratford Technical School for the ensuing year.
