TARANAKI WOOL, SKIN, HIDE, AND TALLOW SALE. MR. NEWTON KINO'S REPORT. On Tuesday, 9th June, 1 held my Usual four-weekly sale of above produce. The catalogue comprised 948 hides, ISO calfskins, 1700 sheepskins, 4 bales and 28 sacks wool, 24 casks and, 4 tins tallow, (iO sacks bones, 1)00 hftrns, besides horse-hair, cow-tails, etc. Prices for sheepskins were much butter, and all sou,iid-|H.'ll«l hits sold well from V»d to %d above late rates. Hides were a little easier than last sale; heavies declined '/jd, medium %A, while light sold about the same. At Rahotu, on Tuesday, weaners made 15s to 10s, 2-year steers C2 15s, 18montlis heifers in calf 3!)s, springing heifers £i as, store cows 37s (id to £i ss. forward cows £3 7s, fat cows £i 7s tid, bulls 30s. At Waiwakaiho, on Thursday, there was a good yarding and attendance. Bidding was brisk tor most lines, nearly everything being sold at the hammer. . VICKERS k STEVENS' REPORT. Messrs. Vickers & Stevens report flint (here was a fair entry of cattle in their Inglewuod yards on' Wednesday, and nearly everything was sold at the hammer. There was a good demand for good calves and store cows. At Opunake on the Bth instant, owing to the inclemency of- the weather, there was only a moderate .yarding. Prices were rather in favor of purchasers. At Eltliam on Hue !lth wo. had a failmuster. Tlm- sale was well attended. Kidding throughout was spirited, eonse queiillv almost even-tiling was disposed of under Ihe hammer. At Ilawera on the lltii instant there was a good yarding of both cattle and sheep. There was a good attendance of buyers, with a fair enquiry. Willi the exception of some lines of grown steers, which were rather neglected, nearly everything changed hands at or after'the sale. There-were a numlier of lines of handy weight wthers on offer, and these' sold well
under competition from the exporters ami local butchers. There was some buying for export in ewes, but owing to there being a heavy entry of these tliierc was a further decline in prices, especially medium and inferior sorts. The range of prices was:—Prime wethers, 17s (id to 21s; extra, to 225; lighter, lis to 17s; prime ewes, Ms to l(is 9d; e.Ura, to Ills (id; medium, lis to 13s (id; and aged inferior, 7s to 10s (id. The entries of pigs in all departments were very small, and the demand, as a result of the shortage, was rather Imtter than at recent, markets. Choppers mad" from £3 Ids to £5; heavy baeoners realised (ids to 755, and lighter 50s to 58s (equal to s 'Ad to 6%d per lb.); heavv porkers made 40s to 48s, and lighter 30s to 32s (id (equal to fully Gd per lb.). A small entry of weaners elicited good competition, prices ranging from 8s to 10s (id.
BCItiNSIDE STOCK MARKET. At I'.urnside (Dimediu) on Wcdnos- | day 2181 fat sheep were penned. This good vanliug consisted mostly of medium quality ewes and wethers, a few pens of extra prime wethers. For ewes and unfinished sheep prices were ii trifle easier, but for good sorts the market was perhaps a shilling lHmcr. Best wethers. IDs (id to 21s 3d; extra, to 225; medium, 17s to 18s; inferior, 14s to IBs. The average for best ewes was in the vicinity of 17s M; extra, »0s Vat lnirta, 8(10 penned, a poor vardiii".
