STOCK LOSSES.
AN IMPORTANT PROPOSAL. Per Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. An important proposal was laid 1..fore the executive committee of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association this afternoon by a deputation from the i Master Butchers' Association W the form of a scheme for a mutual insnran.e fund between sellers and buyers or stock to cover losses through the condemnation of stock. Mr. Salmon, junr., who acted as spokesman, said the master butchers wished the Association to appoint a suncommittee to confer with the butchers when definite recommendations might 1,0 arrived at. It was recognised that when the new municipal abattoirs were m working order there would perhaps be a higher percentage of stock condemned. It was desired to come to some arrangement that would cover both the farmer and butcher against loss. At present a butcher bought cattle at a good price and then perhaps had a number of beasts condemned, and their vain.' was of course a dead loss to luni, wink the fanner suffered if the beast w.-re condemned before the sale. It was pro posed to have an insurance fund that would be paid into by both parties The scale of premiums could be fixed by >i joint board, and, proportionately on the 'risk of condemnation of different classes of animals, it was intended that the premium should be divided equally between buyer and seller, and of course anyone not insuring could not expect so high n price for his stock. _ The meeting thanked the deputation for the proposals, and appointed a suncommittee to consider the matter and report.
